Emergency department
Chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, severe bleeding, a head injury, a broken bone through the skin, sudden confusion, or anything you think could kill someone. Do not drive yourself.

Fevers, sprains, cuts that may need stitches, urinary infections, rashes, ear pain, a cough that will not shift. Things that cannot wait until Tuesday but are not dangerous.

You want your own doctor, or someone in your own practice, and it can wait a few hours. Every primary care site holds slots back each morning for exactly this.

Medication questions, results follow-up, rashes you can hold up to a camera, mental health check-ins, and anything where an examination is not the point.

If you are not sure, call the nurse line on (619) 555-0147. It is answered by a registered nurse around the clock, it is free, and telling you to go to an emergency department is a normal outcome of that call rather than a failure of it.
What the waits look like right now
Posted waits are the median from arrival to being seen by a clinician over the last hour. They are a guide, not a promise: anyone who arrives sicker than you will be seen before you, and that is how it should work.

Urgent care sites
Five sites take walk-ins. No appointment, no referral, and it does not matter which one you usually go to. Bring what is listed below and expect to be triaged on arrival.
Triage happens at the window before registration, so tell the person at the desk what is wrong before you fill anything in.

What to bring
- Photo identification, if you have it. You will be seen without it.
- Your insurance card, if you have insurance. You will be seen without it.
- A list of your medications, including anything you buy over the counter.
- The name of your regular doctor, so we can send them the notes.
- For a child, whoever can consent to treatment for them.
Nobody is turned away for being unable to pay. Emergency care is provided regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay, and financial assistance is available afterwards. See billing and insurance.
Interpreters
Interpreting is free and available in more than two hundred languages, including American Sign Language, at every site and at any hour. Ask at the desk. Do not bring a family member to interpret for you; we will find someone qualified.
Not urgent, but you would like to be seen
Same-day and next-day primary care slots are held back at every practice. Requesting one online is usually faster than the phone.
